Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for underground roller/compactor operations
- Access, interpret and apply mobile plant and equipment documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Select, and check for faults, equipment and/or attachments for work activities
- Inspect and assess site conditions, determine if scaling is required and take action according to site requirements
- Carry out start-up procedures
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Identify and use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
- Ensure work area is well ventilated before entry
- Operate roller/compactor, underground
- Carry out start-up, park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures
- Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
- Drive and operate equipment within recommended speed, engine capability and limitations
- Engage and disengage the compacting device
- Identify, remove and manage contaminants
- Monitor and manage equipment performance using appropriate indicators, and ensure efficiency of operations
- Assess materials and site conditions, and apply appropriate operating techniques
- Compact to required degree of compaction
- Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety to self, others, plant and equipment
- Carry out operator maintenance
- Conduct housekeeping activities
